Hi friends! Hope you are having a good Saturday! Ours is ok for now but we are supposed to be getting an ice storm later, refer to my Spring post about how I feel about this winter-like weather messing up my spring…
As we were hanging out inside today, my husband and I both had headaches and like normal the first thing we reach for is Lavender essential oil to apply to our foreheads to take the pain away, and I thought that I need to share this simple remedy with all of you so that maybe they can help you. Are you familiar with essential oils?
*I want to preface this post by saying that I am not a doctor, I only share what I use and has worked for me and my family. Please do your research before using oils!*
I have been using essential oils for almost 10 years! There is still so much I am still learning about these wonderful oils. The impact these oils have made in my life, my family’s and friend’s lives has been tremendous and exciting! We have reduced and in most cases eliminated over the counter medications, which is AWESOME!! I am the type that would much rather use a natural remedy that God has made and provided than something chemically made.
If I could only have two oils in my house one would be Lavender! I will get to the other one in another post for now let’s focus on Lavender. It is a gentle oil and generally regarded as safe. A little history for all those history nerds, like me, it was first discovered by a French scientist, to have ability to promote tissue regeneration and speed wound healing when he burned his arm in a lab accident.
I use it for minor burns and it takes the pain right away and I notice the pain rarely comes back. The list of what I use it for can go on and on so I will only list here a few to give you an idea.
- Headaches: simply applied across the forehead. I do this most for my son who gets migraines and it eliminates the use for pain meds.
- Sleep and relaxation: applied to the forehead, temples and back of the neck helps tremendously for insomnia and for stress.
- Seasonal allergies (itchy eyes and runny nose): applied under my nose helps so much.
- If we get a scratch from something or from our not so sweet cat, *sigh*, I put a drop of lavender after cleaning thoroughly.
The medical properties of Lavender are antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic, anti-tumoral, anticonvulsant, vasodilating, relaxing and anti-inflammatory according to research from the Essential Oils Desk Reference.
As with any oil, please do your research before using and make sure you are getting them from a reputable source. So many oils out there are combined with chemicals and stabilizers to stretch the company’s profits which in turn does not benefit you and can be harmful. I buy exclusively from Young Living, they are the only company to provide a Seed to Seal Guarantee, click to find out more about these pure oils. If you have any questions I will be glad to answer them or help you find the answer if I don’t know it!
If you have used Lavender, what do you use it for? Also, let me know if you would like to know more about essential oils and their uses, I do love to talk about them and how they have improved my life.
I guess now it is time for some tea this afternoon and to watch the freezing rain and ice cover everything and I will focus on being grateful I have a warm home and I don’t have to go out in it. Take care friends!
