Thieves

Hi friends! To continue from my last post which I said if I could only have 2 oils, the first being Lavender and the second is the blend Thieves. It is a blend of clove, lemon, cinnamon bark, eucalyptus and rosemary.

The history is pretty interesting, it was created from research of a group of 15th century thieves (hence the name) who rubbed this blend of oils on themselves to avoid getting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead (ew…apparently it was a lucrative hobby!) When caught by the authorities they gave their recipe in hoping for a softer punishment.

Studies have shown the blend’s ability to kill airborne microorganisms, awesome! That is why we use it in our diffuser when anyone is sick in our home. It is a proven antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-infectious. I always have a bottle of this blend in my home.

There are some precautions according to the Essential Oil Desk Reference, it can cause skin irritation- I always dilute with a carrier oil and usually only apply it to the bottoms of our feet (the safest place to apply any essential oil). Also, it is a use with caution during pregnancy and DO NOT use on children younger than 18 months of age.

I use this oil whenever we start getting sick and while we are sick, it does lessen symptoms and duration of illness. Also, when we are around others that are sick.

I know this may sound crazy but I will defend it because it does work, when we had the flu earlier this year (we don’t get flu shots) we were only sick a few days. When the first symptoms appeared, before going to bed, I warmed up our feet in warm water for 10 min and soaked a pair of socks in cold water. I then dried our feet and applied a drop of Thieves to the bottom of each foot. Quickly put the wrung out cold, wet sock on then a thick dry sock over that. Then quickly got in bed and put my feet under the covers. This is supposed to help stimulate your immune system and draw in the oils quicker.

Do you use Thieves already? How has it worked for you? Please feel free to ask any question you have about oils, I do enjoy sharing about them. You can leave the question in the comments below or send me an email.
